Simon assists with the cross

Simon assists with the cross

We adore you O Christ and praise you
Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world

And as they came out they came upon a man from Cyrene, named Simon; They compelled this mas to carry his cross

We can see the soldier on the right forcing Simon to help. Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus, possibly the Rufus mentioned by Saint Paul in his letter to the Romans. This suggests that Simon became a Christian. Do we see here the turning point in his life? Can we see in this how in our own lives we can be forced to confront Christ? We might well resist, especially if it means carrying a cross.

O Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us(x3)

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est
(Where charity and love are, God is there)
